The Assistant Vice President of Student Success Programs (AVP-SSP) serves as a senior leader within the Division of Enrollment Management, overseeing a broad portfolio of academic support, student success, college readiness, and persistence-focused programs. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP-SSP provides strategic oversight, operational leadership, and collaborative vision to advance institutional retention and graduation goals. This position leads multiple high-impact university, federally, state, city, and privately funded initiatives, serves as a divisional assessment and planning lead, and plays an essential role in institutional decision-making. The AVP-SSP works closely with academic departments, student support units, and external partners to build comprehensive and innovative pathways that promote student access, learning, progression, and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Office of Academic Standards and Evaluations, Instructional Student Support Services, SEEK, ACE, the Freshman Year Initiative, and TRIO programs
  • Ensure that embedded programs, including the Innovative Career Opportunity and Research Program (ICORP), Fresh Start, Learning Recovery, Science Learning Center, and CUNY Beyond programs, meet program objectives.
  • Lead the college’s Coordinated Undergraduate Education Program, ensuring that goals are met and innovations align with the University's best practices.
  • Provide divisional leadership in strategic planning, goal setting, and the development of long-term initiatives that advance institutional priorities related to student success, opportunity, data-informed decision making, and retention.
  • Foster a collaborative, student-centered organizational culture by guiding, mentoring, and developing staff across the Student Success Programs portfolio, ensuring high performance, professional growth, and alignment with college-wide goals. Also, ensure the use of the student success management systems on campus, including the use of predictive analytics to provide targeted advising and academic intervention support.

Lead all assessment and continuous improvement efforts for the Division of Enrollment Management, including programs outside direct supervisory responsibility.

  • Actively explore University, Federal, State, City, and private funding opportunities.
  • Direct the ongoing evaluation, design, and enhancement of the First Year Initiative, including development of new learning communities such as those supporting English Language Learners.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and evaluation of all freshman seminar faculty and collaborate with the English Department’s Faculty Budget and Personnel Committee to participate in faculty evaluations.
