This role oversees reinsurance, technical and non-technical accounting under IFRS and STAT, reporting to the VP level, and collaborating with global teams across Actuarial, Investment Accounting, Operations, and Controlling. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in Insurance/Reinsurance or financial services preferred.
  • Public Accounting (Big 4 or Large Regional) experience preferred.
  • Salary range of $170,000–$215,000 base with annual bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Own and quality‑assure all accounting functions including reinsurance/technical and non‑technical accounting under IFRS and STAT.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures for various accounts.
  • Address complex reinsurance treaties, investments, and accounting structures as needed.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end reinsurance/technical accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Act as liaison with internal and external auditors and deploy automation to improve efficiency.
  • Lead and develop the Reinsurance Accounting and General/Non‑Technical Accounting teams.

firstPro has partnered with a globa, publicly held insurance/reinsurance organization to identify a AVP, Accounting. This role offers strong visibility within the finance organization and the chance to partner closely with executive leadership, helping drive profitability and strategic decision-making.

The Assistant Vice President of Accounting to oversee our reinsurance, technical, and non-technical accounting close under both IFRS and STAT. Reporting to the 2nd VP of Accounting and Financial Reporting, this leader will own the books and records for actual financial results while collaborating with global teams across Actuarial, Investment Accounting, Operations, and Controlling. Beyond managing day-to-day reporting and local statutory compliance, you will play a key role in refining end-to-end accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring reporting accuracy across the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Own the management and quality assurance over all accounting functions, including reinsurance/technical accounting (premiums, claims, reserves, etc.) and non-technical accounting (investments, pensions, cash, etc.) for IFRS and STAT
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures for non-insurance areas such as pensions, leases, and intercompany
  • Review accounting research and resolve complex or new reinsurance treaties, transactions, and investment structures as required
  • Review key analyses and documentation, including impairment analyses, fluctuation analyses, and footnote disclosures prepared by the Investment Accounting Shared Service Center
  • Reinsurance Governance & Process Excellence
  • Achieve alignment with Reinsurance Accounting (RIA) Department on global governance and requirements, including IFRS accounting, Plan, and Forecast figures
  • Oversee the deployment of best practices to maintain a stable end-to-end reinsurance/technical accounting process, including challenging existing processes and the control framework
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and documentation of controls to ensure compliance with internal control requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with internal and external auditors
  • Deploy modern automation (including but not limited to AI agents) to streamline processes and improve efficiency
  • Supervise the Reinsurance Accounting and General/Non-Technical Accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate execution of accounting entries, reconciliations, analytics, and key controls
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising staff within the Accounting workstream in Finance
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • CPA required
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Insurance/Reinsurance or financial services experience strongly preferred
  • Public Accounting (Big 4 or Large Regional) experience strongly preferred
  • $170,000–$215,000 base salary & annual performance bonus
