Job summary

The Assistant Transportation Supervisor assists in supervising the facility’s transportation operations and personnel. It helps to ensure that Transportation Officers are properly scheduled to transport detainees and vehicles are ready and available.

This position may perform the duties of the Transportation Officer when necessary. It also supervises the operations and personnel in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications

• Must meet all Transportation Officer qualifications.
• One year transportation experience.
• Valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must possess a State Firearms License.
• Must possess a State Security Guard License.
• Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certification of satisfactory completion in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Knowledge of DOT requirements for Hours of Service and Vehicle inspections.
• Ability to set standards and procedures to establish satisfactory levels of performance, quality, and productivity.
• Ability to coordinate the demands of the transportation operations.
• Effective personnel interaction, communication skills, and problem-solving techniques.
• Sound and effective leadership skills.
• Ability to effectively train staff.
• Ability to write reports, memorandums, policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

• Train Transportation Officers on policies and procedures related to transportation of detainees.
• Schedule Transportation Officers work assignments.
• Monitor Officers during departures to ensure care and custody of detainees.
• Oversee vehicle maintenance and repairs to meet standards.
• Investigate and report accidents involving Transportation Officers.
• Transport detainees during emergencies or staffing shortages.
• Issue departure orders per schedules.
• Ensure weapon qualifications are current.
• Maintain DOT files and regulatory records.
• Attend regulatory topics and build networks with authorities.
