Job summary

National DCP, LLC. is seeking an Assistant Transportation Manager in Lockport, IL to oversee safe, legal, on-time freight delivery across the assigned territory.

You will direct route drivers, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with DOT hours and safety policies. The role reports to the Transportation Manager and requires 5–7 years in multi-state transportation management, strong leadership, and proficiency with Motive/Ortec; SAP experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of multi-state transportation management experience in the food distribution industry.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the Federal Motor Carrier Rules and Regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • SAP experience preferred; On-Board Computer System experience required, Motive preferred.
  • Routing software Ortec preferred; experience with 3rd party maintenance vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • Willing to work flexible/extended schedules when needed.
  • Education: High School Diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct route drivers to maximize performance in product delivery and customer relations.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to in-store service and delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality assurance standards.
  • Assist in developing annual cost-savings initiatives aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Assist in managing the department’s operating budget and cost analyses.
  • Assist in hiring, supervising, scheduling, and personnel termination.
  • Schedule, supervise, and direct transportation staff.
  • Monitor driver performance weekly via Motive and Ortec; provide coaching.

Position Overview: The Assistant Transportation Manager will ensure safe, legal, and on-time delivery of freight to member stores throughout assigned territory. The Assistant Transportation Manager provides direction and oversight of alltransportation-related functions across territory and associated transportation hubs.

Schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional after-hours or weekends as needed

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • 1. Responsible for direction and coordination of route drivers to ensure maximum performancerelative to product delivery, service, and good customer relations
  • 2. Ensure customer complaints are investigated and resolved related to in-store service and delivery
  • 3. Ensure full compliance with all company quality assurance standards
  • 4. Assist in the development of annual cost savings initiatives that are aligned with the company strategic plan
  • 5. Assist in managing the department’s annual operating budget and assist in cost analysis
  • 6. Assist in the hiring, supervision, scheduling, and termination of personnel.
  • 7. Effectively schedules, supervises, and directs transportation personnel
  • 8. Monitors Driver performance weekly through Motive and Ortec. Counsels Drivers on performance issues and areas for improvement.
  • 9. Ensures that personnel understand and implement safety and regulatory policies and procedures
  • 10. Manage fleet utilization, tracking status of vehicle/equipment, monitoring equipment on Out of Service report and holding all equipment service providers accountable for repairs identified within DVIR’s and PMs.
  • 11. Ensures compliance with DOT hours of service by giving immediate feedback and taking corrective action when they become aware of HOS issues. Supervisors will utilize the NDCP standard disciplinary action outlined by the driver’s expectations that corresponds to the risk of the violation.
  • 12. Works with the Safety Manager on proper safe driving techniques while using Motive AI camera system to identify risky behaviors, proper lifting, and training in all required DOT regulations.
  • 13. Performs other duties as assigned
