Burns & McDonnell in Saint Louis, MO is seeking an Assistant Transmission Engineer to support licensed engineers on high-voltage transmission projects (69–500 kV) from design through construction.

You will assist in drafting, data collection, and design tasks, with CAD work across AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D and Revit. This entry-level role emphasizes learning, teamwork, and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Eng (ABET preferred).
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Proficient Microsoft Office skills.
• Basic CAD software skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, organization and problem-solving.
• Leadership skills demonstrated; EIT preferred.
• GPA 3.0+ preferred.
• Campus/community involvement preferred.
• Authorized to work permanently in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assist transmission line design from concept to design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for 69-500 kV lines.
• Design line components per project requirements (plans, profiles, load diagrams).
• Apply basic civil/structural engineering concepts to projects.
• Gather project data and prepare studies/reports as needed.
• Update drawings and CAD files under senior engineer guidance.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• participate in field inspections and measurements for clients.
• Perform other duties and comply with policies.
