Assistant Team Leader/ Family Specialist

The Role

The Family Specialist will provide compassionate, recovery based, and trauma informed services that are in line with the traditional practice framework. The Family Specialist will further engage in discussions and activities based on collaboration and uses assertive engagement strategies to engage individuals in services. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Develops and oversees family programming for maximizing opportunities for participants.
  • Provides services consistent with guiding principles of Agency’s philosophy of strength based, family focused, needs driven and culturally competent care.
  • Collaboratively formulates and implements an overall comprehensive care plan for each family.
  • Engages with families in a manner that respects ethnic and cultural practices/customs/ and differences.
  • Discuss and help clarify the participant’s goals for family involvement in their treatment, including, exploring uncertainties and/or challenges in family involvement.
  • Act as a liaison to facilitate and support communication between participants and family members.
  • Provide Psycho-education to Participants and their natural supports.
  • Connect Participants and their family members with supports in the community and provides follow up support to encourage successful community integration.
  • Develop a personalized wellness plan with the Participant.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications

Who You Will Be

  • NYSED license as an LMSW, LMFT, LMHC OR
  • A mental health practitioner with the ability to obtain a NYSED Limited Permit in order to maintain Qualified Health Professional (QHP) status for OASAS regulated programs within 90 days from date of hire.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Family Therapy Counseling.
  • At least One (1) year experience working in a community- based setting with adults experiencing co-occurring disorders.
  • Extensive knowledge of harm reduction and a commitment to providing services to individuals in various stages of their recovery.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • In depth knowledge of NYC diverse network of medical and behavioral health care organizations, including substance use disorders, treatment services, education and employment services, and non-traditional community support groups.
