Civil Service Title: Assistant Civil Engineer
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as Assistant Team Leader in the Bridge Inspection & Management unit of the Bureau of Maintenance, Inspection and Operations.
- Perform routine, special, and emergency inspections using various equipment and tools, including inspecting elevated structures over roadways, railroads, water, and tunnels.
- Prepare bridge condition sketches and inspection reports according to standards.
- Identify and prioritize potential hazards and prepare structural and safety flags with plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Assist the Director of Bridge Inspection with related work in the office.
- May be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License in New York State may be required for certain assignments, and must be maintained during employment.
