Job summary

The Flushing YMCA in Queens, NY is hiring an Assistant Teacher to support the Head Group Teacher with lesson plans, classroom activities, and family engagement.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, at least two years of experience with young children, and knowledge of child development; a Teacher Assistant certificate is preferred. This full-time position offers benefits and a chance to contribute to a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, study plan acceptable.
• Teacher Assistant certificate preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience with young children in group settings.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of children with close supervision.
• Assist with developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
• Guide students in academic growth.
• Communicate with and engage parents/guardians.
• Work as a team member within the Early Childhood Learning Center and YMCA Branch.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom and report hazards.
• Prepare food for children and maintain family-style meals.
• Maintain program documentation (attendance, incident/accident reports, etc.).
• Maintain equipment, storage, and supply inventory.
• Follow YMCA and health/education guidelines.
• Participate in meetings, training, and events.
