Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Assistant Teacher at the Ridgewood YMCA to support the Head Group Teacher with lesson plans, activities, and family engagement. The role emphasizes safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate practices in a busy Early Childhood Learning Center.

The position requires a High School Diploma/GED and a preferred Teacher Assistant certificate, plus at least one year of relevant experience. On-site work at Ridgewood YMCA in Queens is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Teacher Assistant certificate preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with young children.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children with close supervision.
• Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
• Guide students in academic growth.
• Actively communicate with and engage parents/guardians and families.
• Work as a supportive team member within the Early Childhood Learning Center and the YMCA Branch.
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment and set up spaces/materials.
