Job Title: Assistant Teacher

Reports to: Child Development Director or Childcare Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Head Teacher and supervision of the Child Development Director, the Assistant Teacher provides quality education and care for preschool students, assisting with classroom supervision and outdoor activities, using positive discipline techniques to ensure a safe environment.

Essential Functions

• Assist in daily classroom supervision, including outdoor activities, ensuring safety and health.
• Promote inclusivity and act with an anti-racist lens within diverse communities.
• Help create and implement developmentally appropriate curricula and complete required reports.
• Use knowledge of child development to assess and plan for individual children.
• Supervise parents and visitors.
• Participate in emergency drills and documentation.
• Prepare materials, take attendance, and manage meal counts.
• Follow food handling, sanitation, and OSHA procedures.
• Maintain anecdotal logs and classroom organization.
• Uphold YMCA core values and maintain confidentiality.
• Supervise children and adhere to policies and regulations.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of early childhood development and standards.
• Warm, nurturing personality.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
• Ability to work with children with communicable diseases and disabilities.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, and lift children up to 30 pounds.
• Visual and auditory acuity for safety and emergency response.
