Base pay range

$18.75/hr - $20.50/hr

Summary

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum. Encourage self-esteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child. Ensure health, safety, and nutritional education is integrated into curriculum planning. Responsible for the care, supervision, and safety of children, maintaining a clean and organized classroom and equipment. Follow all program policies and procedures. Act as the program lead in the absence of the Head Teacher. Demonstrate compassion and understanding for children and families from diverse backgrounds.

Duties
  • Take on responsibilities of program operations in the absence of the Head Teacher.
  • Understand child development principles through daily interactions.
  • Interact with children for up to 8 hours, engaging in activities like moving, reacting, lifting, sitting on the floor, participating in trips and playground activities.
  • Work as scheduled; attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Work flexible hours and travel between centers if needed.
  • Handle crises professionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow directions, prioritize tasks, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Document ongoing career development.
  • Implement licensing codes, funding requirements, and regulations.
  • Conduct child observations and developmental assessments.
  • Communicate with families and team members about children's progress.
  • Maintain a safe and stimulating environment.
  • Assist in planning and evaluating activities.
  • Adhere to policies and communicate effectively.
  • Supervise effectively and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Motivate staff and parents.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans.
  • Participate in training and workshops.
  • Maintain classroom order and supplies.
  • Possess basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Establish positive relationships with colleagues and children.
  • Assist in maintaining CLASS scores if applicable.
  • Use computer skills for data entry and communication.
  • Assume responsibilities in the Head Teacher's absence.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.
  • Dress professionally and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Work 35-37 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in ECE, or
  • Associate's Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits, or
  • 12 credits in ECE plus a valid CDA or within six months of hire, or an Associate's Degree within one year.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • CT child care first-aid and CPR certification.
  • Health and TB testing as specified.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Credentials for Connecticut Head Teacher License.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Availability from 7:00AM to 5:00PM on a rotational basis.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
