Overview
Auburn University Facilities Management is excited to announce anopening for an Assistant Supervisor in our Preventive Maintenanceshop. This is a key leadership role focused on maintaining theintegrity and functionality of campus facilities in support ofAuburn’s academic, research, and outreach mission. The Assistant Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the dailyactivities of a skilled maintenance workforce, ensuring timelyexecution of preventive maintenance tasks and work orders.Responsibilities include on-site supervision, task planning, anddirecting efforts to address building deficiencies such asmechanical issues, structural repairs, and system upkeep. Thisposition plays a vital role in keeping Auburn’s campus safe,efficient, and fully operational. If you’re a motivatedprofessional with experience in facilities maintenance and teamleadership.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the daily tasks performed by Universitymulti-tradespersons and contractors ensuring that all involved meetUniversity standards and contract requirements. Communicates withassigned subordinate staff to ensure policies and procedures areunderstood and maintained. Ensures that work is completed in asafe, timely manner and in compliance with the appropriater regulatory agencies.
- Assists in diagnosing problems; performing repairs; andreplacing parts related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and/ormechanical equipment. Provides technical advice and support totechnicians, monitors the repair of equipment, and providesmaintenance inspections.
- Assists with ensuring that timely and accurate data ismaintained in the work management system to provide properreporting for clients and senior leadership within Facilities andthe University. Investigates and responds to client's queries,complaints, and other issues to meet and satisfy client needs.
- Ensures the quality and timely responsiveness of assignedmaintenance activities, including after-hours response to emergencycalls. May work outside of normal operating hours and days toassist in managing special projects or maintenanceemergencies.
- Maintains awareness of records and documentation of workactivities, supplies, and equipment. Communicates with theSupervisor, Preventive Maintenance to keep them aware of activitieswithin the department. Assists in the development of procedures andoperating instructions for safe, accurate, and quality workperformance and updates on project status.
- Provides some coordination among Maintenance department’s zonesand shops, other Facilities Management departments, outsidecontractors, and Auburn University customers and visitors ensuringthat maintenance activities are coordinated and communicated.Communicates with stakeholders to keep aware of activities,maximize efficiencies, answers questions, and resolves issues.
- Participates in the recruitment of multi-trade positionsincluding reviewing resumes and participating in interviews.Assists with performance review evaluations in collaboration withsupervisor.
- Assists in meeting with clients on a regular basis tounderstand their facility needs and collaborates with supervisor toplan preventive maintenance and ensure that support can beprovided.
- Collaborates with supervisor to provide budget coordination forthe shop. Assists in overseeing shop purchases and materialrequests.
- May be responsible for meeting and maintaining training andcertification requirements as outlined by the applicabledepartment's training and credentialing requirements. May performother specialized tasks related to upkeep of buildings, grounds,and facilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience inconstruction and trades.
- Valid Driver's License
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: Yes, When a candidate has therequired education, but lacks the required experience, they maynormally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevanteducation per year of required experience.
