Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in San Diego seeks an Assistant Substation Engineer to support licensed engineers in delivering design deliverables for high‑voltage substations (13kV–765kV) from concept through construction.

The role requires an ABET‑accredited electrical engineering degree, EIT preferred, internship experience, strong communication, and attention to detail to help prepare designs, studies, packages, and client presentations.

Qualifications

  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design of substation projects from concept through completion.
  • Prepare design packages including layouts, protection and control, and studies.
  • Assist with calculations: insulation, voltage drop, cable sizing, conduit fill.
  • Support client presentations, reports, and visualizations of results.
  • Adhere to project schedules and QA/QC guidelines.
