Job summary

Family Dollar is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in Detroit, MI to support day-to-day store operations, assist customers, and develop a high-performing team. You will help organize merchandise, participate in opening/closing tasks, and ensure safety and policy adherence while driving sales and operational excellence.

This role emphasizes leadership, training, and hands-on supervision of Store Associates in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain directives as needed.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs. and handle frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional effectiveness of fixtures and displays.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged goods, record keeping, payroll, scheduling, cash deposits/receipts, and loss prevention.
• Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash.
• Adhere to policies and procedures and ensure safety guidelines.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment with customers and team.
• Maintain cleanliness and restocking of bathrooms, sweeping/mopping floors, trash, and neat presentation.
• Other duties as assigned.
