Job summary

Frattallone’s Hardware in St. Paul/Summit Hill is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to lead from the front, manage daily operations, and ensure an upbeat store culture. You will coach and develop staff while delivering outstanding customer service and supporting sales growth.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong communication, and the ability to manage inventory, safety, and operations. Evening/weekend availability is expected, with a starting pay of $17.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team and help create a positive, high-energy store culture.
• Deliver exceptional, proactive customer service and ensure the team does the same.
• Help drive sales, profitability, and other store goals.
• Keep the sales floor fresh, organized, stocked, and merchandised to company standards.
• Oversee receiving, deliveries, inventory, safety, and day-to-day store operations.
• Support and develop associates through coaching, training, and feedback.
• Help recruit, select, onboard, and train new team members.
• Build relationships with retail and commercial customers to grow the business.
• Know the market and what makes the St. Paul/Summit Hill community unique.
• Take charge in the Store Manager’s absence and ensure standards are met.
• Become a go-to expert across the store including service desk and more.
• Master key services such as key cutting, paint mixing, lock keying, flooring cuts, and lumber banding.
• Complete required product knowledge and safety certifications.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who likes to lead from the front, solve problems, develop people, and keep the store moving. When the Store Manager is away, you’ll take the lead and make sure the team, customers, and operation are all on track.

What You’ll Do

• Become a go-to expert across the store, including customer service, product knowledge, receiving, forklifts, DOT, service desk, and more.
• Master key services such as key cutting, paint mixing, lock keying, flooring cuts, and lumber banding.
• Complete required product knowledge and safety certifications.

• Understand retail sales, merchandising, operations, and the importance of controlling shrink.
• Can read and understand sales and operational data and use it to make smart decisions.
• Have hardware, building materials, lumber, or retail experience (a big plus!)
• Are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Can safely lift up to 50 lbs. and handle the physical demands of a hardware store, including ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and stocking overhead.
