Job summary

Jacksonville University seeks an Assistant Sports Performance Coach to lead strength and conditioning for Softball, Women's Rowing, and Men's Soccer. The role includes programming, teaching weightlifting, and maintaining facilities for Division I athletes.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in related field with 1–2 years experience, SCCC or CSCS certification.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and CPR-AED certification is preferred.

Job Summary

Primary job responsibilities will be the design, implementation, and scheduling of strength and conditioning programs for sports as assigned by the Director, Sports Performance. The anticipated sport coverage for this position will be Softball, Women's Rowing, and Men's Soccer, but these coverages may be changed from time to time and additional sport coverage may be required. Primary responsibilities also include assisting the Director, Sports Performance in all aspects of Division I Strength and Conditioning program including, but not limited to, teaching student athletes how to perform Weightlifting and Conditioning. In addition, this position will assist with the daily operation and maintenance of strength and conditioning facilities and other duties as assigned by the Director, Sports Performance. Must be proficient in Olympic and strength training movements, exercise selection and programming, speed mechanics, agility drills, and nutrition. The ability to communicate and develop a working relationship with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and student-athletes is imperative. Support other strength staff members as assigned. Travel optional.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

  • All strength and conditioning-related activities are to be programmed and overseen directly for the Softball, Women's Rowing, and Men's Soccer programs. This includes but is not limited to warm-ups, cooldowns, speed and conditioning, and all weight lifting sessions.
  • More duties may be added throughout the year
  • Assist with the daily operation and maintenance of strength and conditioning facilities
  • Working with strength staff in organizing social media page(s).
  • Aiding in keeping weight room and nutrition inventory.
  • Assisting in the internship and graduate assistant curriculum.
  • Aiding in weight room upkeep and maintenance as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
  • Ability to organize and balance 3 or more teams’ programming and demands of supporting programs assigned to serve.
  • Must be proficient in Olympic and strength training movements, exercise selection and programming, speed mechanics, agility drills, and nutrition.
  • The ability to communicate and develop a working relationship with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and student-athletes is imperative.
  • Support other strength staff members as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications for Position:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications for Position:

  • Master's degree in related field. 1-2 years of relevant experience. SCCC or CSCS certification. Knowledge of NCAA rules / regulations and CPR-AED certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move heavy weights
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises/drills/ etc

Work Conditions:

  • Working with large groups of athletes without the proper amount of staffing to ensure the safety of athletes
