Job summary

Ball State University Athletics is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Assistant Softball Coach to join our softball program and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our student-athletes. This position will assist with all aspects of the softball program, including practice and game preparation, skill development, scouting and recruiting, player development, and team operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Collegiate playing experience at a competitive level and/or softball coaching experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and instruction to student-athletes; develop softball student-athletes on and off the field and assist the Head Coach with program management.
• Perform duties in all areas of the program at the direction of the head coach, athletic director or sport supervisor.
• Develop, in conjunction with the head coach, planning of practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
• Serve as primary defense coordinator and infield specialist.
• Organize and implement a focused and productive player development plan(s).
• Support cultivating a strong competitive recruit database, help manage and keep up to date filtering of recruiting software.
• Assess and evaluate talent and recruitment of athletes into the program; includes contact by telephone and mail; off campus evaluations; on campus visits.
• Support team travel arrangements.
• Develop scouting reports and pre-competition evaluations of opponents.
• Work in conjunction with the head coach to implement fund raising opportunities on a yearly basis.
• Support all Ball State softball camps and clinics.
• Mentor graduate assistant and/or volunteer assistant coaches.
