Ball State University is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach in Muncie, IN. The role supports all aspects of the softball program, including practice prep, skill development, scouting, recruiting, and team operations, under the direction of the Head Coach.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, collegiate playing or coaching experience, and a valid driver's license. Master's degree is preferred, with a strong commitment to student-athlete growth and program excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.
• Collegiate playing experience and/or coaching experience.
• Possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under university policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and instruction to student-athletes.
• Assist with planning of practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
• Serve as infield specialist and primary defense coordinator.
• Develop and implement a player development plan.
• Support recruiting efforts and manage recruiting software.
• Evaluate talent and coordinate campus visits and communications.
• Support team travel and scouting reports.
• Assist with fundraising opportunities and camps/clinics.
• Mentor graduate or volunteer assistant coaches.
• Uphold NCAA, MAC, and Ball State rules; maintain compliance.

Position Title: Assistant Softball Coach Compensation: $43,000-$47,000 Department: Softball

About this opportunity: Ball State University Athletics is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Assistant Softball Coach to join our softball program and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our student-athletes. This position will assist with all aspects of the softball program, including practice and game preparation, skill development, scouting and recruiting, player development, and team operations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the coaching staff to create a competitive, positive, and supportive environment that promotes excellence both on and off the field. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring

Position Function: Provide teaching and instruction to student-athletes; develop softball student-athletes on and off the field and assist the Head Coach with program management.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and instruction to student-athletes.
• Perform duties in all areas of the program at the direction of the head coach, athletic director or sport supervisor.
• Develop, in conjunction with the head coach, planning of practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
• Serve as primary defense coordinator and infield specialist.
• Organize and implement a focused and productive player development plan(s).
• Support cultivating a strong competitive recruit database, help manage and keep up to date filtering of recruiting software.
• Assess and evaluate talent and recruitment of athletes into the program; includes contact by telephone and mail; off campus evaluations; on campus visits.
• Support team travel arrangements.
• Develop scouting reports and pre-competition evaluations of opponents.
• Work in conjunction with the head coach to implement fund raising opportunities on a yearly basis.
• Support all Ball State softball camps and clinics.
• Mentor graduate assistant and/or volunteer assistant coaches.
• Show commitment to and responsibility for adherence to all rules and regulations of Ball State University, the Mid-American Conference, and the NCAA; pass the NCAA certification examination on an annual basis.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Collegiate playing experience at a competitive level and/or softball coaching experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
