Assistant Softball Coach
Indian River State College – Fort Pierce, FL

Join a dynamic athletics program committed to student success! Indian River State College is seeking a passionate and motivated assistant softball coach to support the Head Coach with recruitment, training, game‑day operations, and curriculum development. This role offers the opportunity to mentor student‑athletes, help shape a competitive team, and make a lasting impact both on and off the field. Ideal candidates will have prior coaching experience, strong organizational skills, and a drive to develop talent.

Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision, this position assists the Head Softball Coach on organizational and coaching aspects of the softball program for the College. Duties include:

  • Talk with and recruit prospective softball players for the College.
  • Train and condition team members.
  • Assist with game‑day functions.
  • Assist the Coach in teaching and modifying the curriculum.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of all training for athletes in the program on a yearly basis, including conditioning and technical aspects of softball.
  • Assist with all recruitment of athletes that may become future student‑athletes via telephone calls, written communication, and on/off campus visits.
  • Assist with the coordination and running of summer camp programs for the local community members within the sport of softball.
  • Assist with game‑day management for each contest.
  • Work as part of a team in supporting student success, retention, and completion.
  • Work fluctuating hours as needed.
  • Drive as assigned.
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree; two (2) years of collegiate or club coaching experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • First aid, CPR and AED certification (or pass testing within one month of hire).
  • Meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) for instructors/coaches.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA governing rules.
  • Knowledge of working with softball, recruiting athletes, conditioning, and teaching related curriculum.
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows‑based applications.
  • Skill in organizing, leading others, efficiently using resources, and prioritizing.
  • Ability to work with elite collegiate student athletes.
  • Ability to be accurate, pay attention to details, be a self‑starter, work independently as well as with others, be a team player, make decisions, and be self‑motivated.
Physical Demands

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The job requires a good deal of walking or standing, or sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.

Compensation and Application Deadline

Pay range starts at: $40,570.96. All salary calculations start at the minimum salary and will be based on candidate's education and experience. Open until filled.
