Job summary

Bunker Hill Community College in Boston is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach for the spring 2027 season. The role supports the Head Coach in practices, skill development, and team activities, including player development and game preparation.

The position requires competitive softball playing experience, coaching background preferred, and CPR/AED certification. Travel, equipment, and administrative duties are part of the role, with a salary range of $2,700 to $4,000, paid in two installments.

Qualifications

• Competitive softball playing experience at the secondary and/or collegiate level.

• Knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and player development.
• Must maintain current CPR/AED certification.
• Strong instructional, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff and support the goals of a collegiate athletic program.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Softball Coach with planning and conducting practices, skill-development sessions, and team activities.
• Provide instruction and support in development of fundamental softball skills.
• Assist with game preparation, scouting, strategy, and in-game coaching responsibilities.
• Support the development and academic progress of student-athletes.
• Assist with recruitment of prospective student-athletes per NJCAA guidelines.
• Monitor student-athlete progress and promote academic achievement and sportsmanship.
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing respect, teamwork, and well-being.
• Communicate with student-athletes, Head Coach, Athletics staff, and other college personnel.
• Assist with equipment management, field prep, travel coordination, and administrative duties.
• Maintain knowledge of college policies, conference regulations, and NJCAA rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Athletics and Wellness Department is looking for a Assistant Softball Coach for the spring 2027 season. The Assistant Softball Coach will perform the following duties:

• Assist the Head Softball Coach with planning and conducting practices, skill-development sessions, and team activities.
• Provide instruction and support in the development of fundamental softball skills, including hitting, fielding, throwing, base running, and situational awareness.
• Assist with game preparation, scouting, strategy, and in-game coaching responsibilities.
• Support the physical, technical, tactical, and personal development of student-athletes.
• Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with college and NJCAA guidelines.
• Monitor student-athlete progress and promote academic achievement, personal accountability, sportsmanship, and team success.
• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, teamwork, discipline, integrity, and student-athlete well-being.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, the Head Softball Coach, Athletics Department staff, and other college personnel regarding team expectations and student-athlete progress.
• Assist with equipment management, field preparation, travel coordination, and other administrative duties related to program operations, as assigned.
• Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all applicable college policies, conference regulations, and NJCAA rules and regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Softball Coach or Athletics Department.

Additional Information

Salary: $2,700.00 - $4,000.00 (depending on experience) (Paid in 2 installments).

Training & Recruitment / State Date: August 1, 2025

Season Practice / Start Date: January 1, 2027 - End Date: May 31, 2027
