Job Description

Title: Assistant Coach – Softball

Reports To: Head Coach

Duration: Fall/Winter/Spring Season

Salary: $6,729.13 to $11,856.10 Per Season

Purpose Statement: The Assistant Coach is responsible for designing and implementing program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport; supervising student athletes during all aspects of participation; using sound instructional techniques; serving as a positive role model; and supporting the athletic program at the Varsity or Junior Varsity level.

Functions:

  • Analyzes opposition’s strategies to develop game plans.
  • Assesses student athletes to provide feedback and determine team placement.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information related to the role.
  • Develops game strategies as requested by Head Coach.
  • Evaluates facilities for hazards and recommends safety measures.
  • Instructs student athletes to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Maintains records such as game statistics, insurance forms, schedules, and equipment inventories in compliance with district, conference and state requirements.
  • Monitors academic eligibility to comply with IHSA requirements and provides intervention for students needing assistance.
  • Promotes the athletic program by conducting off‑season clinics, providing information on skill camps, and attending community meetings.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media and college representatives.
  • Supervises student athletes during competition, travel, meetings and practices to ensure safety.
  • Supports other staff by assisting in the performance of their roles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Adapt to changing priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes, and policies; organize and communicate information. Knowledge of equipment, injury prevention, IHSA concussion protocols, participant eligibility, public relations protocols, professional standards, and safety practices.

Abilities: Schedule activities, gather data, use job‑related equipment; work independently with diverse groups; problem‑solve; communicate across cultures; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate student athletes; enforce discipline; prioritize; travel to off‑campus events; work extended hours.

Experience: Job‑related experience is desired.

Certification: Teacher Certification or ASEP Certification.

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt. Position Type: Part‑Time.
