Title: ASSISTANT COACH
Reports To: Head Coach
Duration: Winter/Spring Season
Salary: New coaches may be granted a maximum of five years experience for documented IHSA experience. Longevity is based on years of coaching regardless of the sport.
The job of Assistant Coach is established for the purpose of designing and implementing program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport; providing supervision of student athletes during all aspects of their participation in the program; using sound instructional techniques in overseeing the program; serving as a positive role model to student athletes and to the community; and to various organizations. Individuals in this job classification are assigned to a position for a specific sport at the Varsity or Junior Varsity level.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills: adapt to changing work priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes, policies, and regulations; organize and communicate information.
Knowledge: basic math; interpret technical information; write technical materials; communicate persuasively; understand equipment, injury prevention, IHSA concussion protocols, eligibility guidelines, safety practices.
Ability: schedule activities, gather data, operate basic equipment; work independently with others; handle varied data; communicate with diverse groups; lead; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce discipline; travel to off-campus events; work extended hours including evenings/weekends.
