GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads a team of stylists and estheticians, supporting the Experience Manager (EM) in delivering high sales growth in hair and skin services. The ASM is responsible for all aspects of the services business, including sales, guest satisfaction, operational excellence, and providing services directly to guests in the salon. This role emphasizes performance, people, and process, requiring a drive for results, industry passion, exceptional guest service, leadership, and technical aptitude.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance
  • Perform salon hair, makeup, skincare services, and product demonstrations.
  • Achieve weekly individual productivity goals.
  • Promote accountability to meet or exceed sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink goals.
  • Drive profitability through operational excellence and top-line sales growth.
  • Support service events to enhance guest experience and meet sales and payroll targets.
  • Regularly analyze financial and operational reports to inform strategies.
  • Address underperformance in service sales with targeted strategies.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and hold team accountable for attendance policies.
People
  • Support hiring, retention, and professional development of a diverse team.
  • Build an engaged team aligned with the Ulta Beauty brand and guest experience goals.
  • Train, coach, and develop service professionals.
  • Create an inclusive environment fostering growth and engagement.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with peers and brand partners.
  • Promote a culture of service excellence within leadership.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Review and respond to company communications promptly.
  • Enforce dress code and manage inventory effectively.
  • Prioritize store tasks using company tools, including resets and replenishment.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and technology adoption.
  • Assist in scheduling to optimize traffic and productivity.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Cosmetology school graduate
  • Cosmetology license or management license as required by state law

Experience

  • 2-3+ years in salon management or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of state board regulations and hiring requirements
  • Experience in financial management and leadership development

Skills

  • Proficiency in salon techniques and service categories
  • Basic technology skills (POS, MS Office, Apple devices)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Attendance at corporate meetings and conferences
