You will work with the Service Manager and leadership to run the service department, supervise technicians, coordinate scheduling, and ensure quality and customer satisfaction.

This hands-on leadership position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical knowledge, leadership potential, and a commitment to delivering outstanding marine service.

Job description

Rapid Marine is seeking an experienced, motivated Assistant Service Manager to join our Shakopee location.

This is a management-development position designed for someone who wants to take the next step in their marine service career. The person hired for this role will work closely with our current Service Manager and leadership team, learning all aspects of running a successful marine service department with the goal of eventually advancing into the Service Manager position.

The ideal candidate understands marine service operations, communicates well with customers and technicians, stays organized in a fast-paced environment, and has the leadership ability to keep work moving efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced marine technician, service advisor, shop foreman, or assistant manager who is ready to develop into a full service-management role.

Primary Responsibilities
Service Department Operations
  • Assist the Service Manager with the day-to-day operation of the service and rigging departments.
  • Help prioritize and schedule repair, maintenance, warranty, rigging, and delivery work.
  • Assign work based on technician skill level, workload, deadlines, and available resources.
  • Monitor work in progress to ensure jobs are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Help maximize technician productivity, efficiency, and utilization.
  • Identify workflow problems and help remove obstacles that delay completion of work.
  • Coordinate with parts personnel to ensure necessary parts and accessories are available when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional service department.
Customer Service
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, estimates, timelines, and service recommendations.
  • Assist with writing and reviewing repair orders and estimates.
  • Provide customers with timely updates when repair scope, cost, or completion dates change.
  • Help resolve customer concerns in a professional and solution-oriented manner.
  • Ensure customers receive the level of communication and service expected from Rapid Marine.
Quality Control
  • Review completed work to help ensure repairs and installations meet Rapid Marine standards.
  • Help ensure boats are properly inspected before being returned to customers.
  • Work with technicians when additional troubleshooting or technical assistance is needed.
  • Reinforce proper procedures for documentation, cleanliness, boat protection, and final delivery preparation.
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Help supervise service technicians, riggers, seasonal employees, and other service personnel.
  • Assist with training and development of new and existing employees.
  • Provide clear expectations and help hold employees accountable for quality, productivity, and professionalism.
  • Help create a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Develop the leadership, financial, operational, and personnel-management skills required to eventually manage the department.
Administration & Warranty
  • Ensure repair orders are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Verify that labor, parts, sublet work, warranty information, and technician notes are properly documented.
  • Assist with manufacturer warranty claims and required documentation.
  • Help monitor open repair orders and work-in-progress.
  • Assist with service-department reporting and performance tracking.
  • Learn and monitor key department metrics including technician productivity, efficiency, labor sales, work-in-progress, comeback rate, and customer satisfaction.
Sales & Rigging Coordination
  • Work closely with the Sales and Finance teams to schedule new and used boat rigging and customer deliveries.
  • Assist with accessory installation estimates and scheduling.
  • Help ensure sold units are completed accurately and on time.
  • Communicate potential delays or issues before they affect the customer delivery.
Qualifications
  • Previous marine, powersports, automotive, equipment, or similar service-industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Marine technician, service advisor, shop foreman, or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of diagnostic and repair processes.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred, but we will consider candidates with demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable using computers, service-management software, email, and other business systems.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and responsibilities in a fast-paced seasonal business.
  • Ability to define problems, gather information, evaluate alternatives, and make sound decisions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical-school education and marine manufacturer certifications are preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required for operation of company vehicles.

Rapid Marine operates in a highly seasonal industry, and schedules vary throughout the year.

Monday through Saturday operations, with day off during the week.Seasonal (winter) schedule of Tuesday thru Saturday.

During the busy boating season, this position will generally include one weekday off when Saturdays are required.

Additional hours may occasionally be necessary during peak spring and summer periods.

Participation in company boat shows, events, and other off-site activities may occasionally be required.

The position includes a combination of office, customer-facing, shop, and outdoor work.

Starting Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000/year

Rapid Marine is looking for an Assistant Service Manager to join our Shakopee team and train directly for advancement into a Service Manager role.

This is a hands-on leadership position designed for someone with strong mechanical knowledge, customer service skills, and the ambition to run a marine service department.

The right candidate will work alongside our current Service Manager, learning and taking on responsibility for technician workflow, scheduling, customer communication, quality control, parts coordination, and overall department performance.
