Job description

North Central Utility (NCU) is seeking a self-motivated and results-driven Assistant Service Manager to represent NCU in the semi-trailer service industry.

North Central Utility is one of the largest semi-trailer dealerships in the nation and the largest in the North Central region, with 10 locations across Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota. We offer reefer, dry van, and flatbed trailers from Utility Trailer Manufacturing at all locations, and vocational trailers from MAC Trailers in Wisconsin. We sell both new and used semi-trailers. Additionally, with Moore Space, we provide temporary storage container solutions.

Our parts department boasts an extensive inventory of Heavy-Duty Truck/Tractor and Trailer parts, making us a “One Stop Shop” for truck and semi-trailer parts across our broad geographic coverage. Our service department provides routine maintenance, certified DOT inspections, precision laser alignment, and complete wreck repair for trailers of all makes and models. No job is too big or small for our skilled technicians.

This position is classified as safety sensitive, requiring pre-employment and post-accident drug testing.

Key responsibilities:
  • Assist in overseeing service department operations
  • Estimate and quote services
  • Assist in managing service technicians and repair orders
  • Lead and motivate team through excellence and work ethic
  • Support department and staff training using industry best practices
  • Act as liaison between parts, sales, and service departments
  • Attend industry workshops as needed
  • Educate customers on NCU services
  • Develop relationships with key decision makers
  • Assist in building maintenance and collaborate with other department managers
  • Identify customer needs and opportunities, negotiate effectively, and promote relationships
  • Promote safety-first workplace culture
  • Handle warranty administration and support the Service Manager as needed
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Leadership and customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role
Additional responsibilities:
  • Manage department and team members
  • Execute projects effectively at the store level
  • Maintain customer relationships and accurate paperwork
  • Maintain department files
Driving requirements:
  • Driving is a duty of this role
  • Valid Driver's License required
