Job summary

Enterris Associates, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to support city street and park improvement projects in the Los Angeles area.

You will assist the Resident Engineer with contract administration, field oversight, and coordination with design teams and stakeholders. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in public works or construction engineering, a Civil Engineering background, and a PE/EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate, preferred
• A minimum of 5 years of experience to 10 or more years as an Assistant Resident Engineer or in construction engineering on public works.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Resident Engineer in administering construction contracts for city street and park improvement projects, and acts for the Resident Engineer when delegated.
• Observes and oversees construction of roadway, pavement, and bike path work; utilities; sidewalks, bus shelters, and bus stop amenities; curb ramps, curb and gutter, and ADA improvements; and traffic and pedestrian signals.
• Observes and oversees park and public recreational space improvements such as shade structures, hydration stations, misters, bike racks and lockers, micromobility amenities, ADA parking, utilities and lighting, and minor flatwork and civil works.
• Reviews and responds to RFIs and contractor submittals, coordinates responses with design team and Owner.
• Assists in evaluating change orders, time extension requests, and claims, and prepares supporting documentation.

Title: Assistant Resident Engineer

Position Description

• Enterris Associates is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer who will provide additional professional support on city street and park improvement projects across multiple Los Angeles-area jurisdictions.

Essential Job Duties

• Assists the Resident Engineer in administering construction contracts for city street and park improvement projects, and acts for the Resident Engineer when delegated.
• Observes and oversees construction of roadway, pavement, and bike path work; utilities; sidewalks, bus shelters, and bus stop amenities; curb ramps, curb and gutter, and ADA improvements; and traffic and pedestrian signals.
• Observes and oversees park and public recreational space improvements such as shade structures, hydration stations, misters, bike racks and lockers, micromobility amenities, ADA parking, utilities and lighting, and minor flatwork and civil works.
• Reviews and responds to requests for information (RFIs) and contractor submittals, and coordinates responses with the design team and the Owner.
• Assists in evaluating change orders, time extension requests, and claims, and prepares supporting documentation.
• Reviews contractor progress payment applications and verifies quantities in the field.
• Reviews contractor schedules and monitors progress against the schedule.
• Verifies that work complies with contract documents, applicable jurisdictional standards and permits, and ADA requirements.
• Coordinates daily with inspectors, the Office Engineer, and contractor staff, and documents field activities, inspections, and test results.
• Coordinates with jurisdictional agencies, utility owners, and stakeholders, and takes part in progress and coordination meetings.
• Monitors quality and safety on the project, and follows up on nonconforming work.
• Assists with project closeout, including punch lists, as-built documentation, and final acceptance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience to 10 or more years of experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer, Resident Engineer, or in construction engineering on public works, street, or transit projects.
• Experience with the standards and requirements of one or more of the following, and familiarity with the others: City of Los Angeles (Green, Blue, Brown, and Red Book standards for public works), the Cities of Downey, Bell, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, Norwalk, Long Beach, El Monte, and Carson, Caltrans, the County of Los Angeles, and CT Greenbook Standards - confirm meaning.
• Able to work typical business hours or construction shifts in person.

Education/Training/Certificates

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate, preferred

Hardware/Software Knowledge

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience with the project management information system used on the program

Compensation

• This role is salaried/exempt with a base annual salary range of $191,300 - $250,000 and commensurate with skill, education, experience, and work location.
• This role is bonus eligible after 6 months of employment.
