Job description

The Union County Prosecutor is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as an Assistant Prosecutor. This role involves performing legal research; drafting, reviewing, and filing pleadings; attending court hearings, prosecuting cases on behalf of the State of Ohio, and representing County public officials and Township officials in civil matters. Your contributions will make a direct, positive impact to the residents and future of Union County.

An example of acceptable qualifications:

Possession of Juris Doctorate and two (2) - four (4) years' experience as a practicing attorney. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized, and self-motivated. Must be capable of passing a comprehensive pre-employment background.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a lawyer in good-standing with the Ohio Supreme Court.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

(1) Performs legal research; analyzes legal issues; remains up to date on the latest case and statutory law; prepares, reviews, and files pleadings; represents the State of Ohio in trials and hearings; interviews witnesses; answers legal questions; drafts legal opinions and reviews contracts/documents for County officials and Township Officials.

(2) Represents County officials and Township officials in civil litigation; researches and writes opinions, motions, memorandums in response and appellate briefs; handles tax appeals, foreclosures, and appropriation cases; prepares indictments; attends grand jury.

(3) Attends meetings on behalf of County officials and Township officials; provides legal advice to clients; answers and responds to requests for information by the general public; may be assigned to special projects.

(4) Maintains required licensures, certification, and continuing education requirements, if any.

(5) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

(6) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(8) Attends staff meetings as assigned.
