Job summary

The Bronx is seeking an Assistant Property Manager I for an on-site role at a NYC affordable housing property. You will support daily administration, compliance, resident relations, and operations, ensuring accurate records and lease administration in RealPage and other systems.

Key duties include coordinating income certifications, audits, and occupancy, while collaborating with residents and service providers to maintain housing stability and program compliance.

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Assistant Property Manager I for our partner, a mission-driven housing organization dedicated to providing safe, stable, and affordable housing while supporting residents in maintaining independence and long-term housing stability. This is a full-time, onsite position in New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Property Manager I supports the day-to-day administration, compliance, resident relations, and operations of an affordable and supportive housing property. Working closely with the Property Manager and onsite teams, this role helps maintain accurate housing records, coordinate building operations, and ensure compliance with applicable affordable housing programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented property management professional who enjoys combining administrative expertise with meaningful, resident-focused work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage key affordable housing administration functions, including rent processing, lease documentation, move-ins, move-outs, renewals, unit transfers, income certifications, and resident records using property management systems such as RealPage.
  • Prepare, track, and maintain accurate documentation related to LIHTC, Section 8, SCRIE, DRIE, and other applicable housing programs , ensuring resident files and certifications remain current and audit-ready.
  • Partner with residents, subsidy agencies, social services teams, and internal staff to resolve documentation needs, subsidy discrepancies, rent arrears, housing-related concerns, and other matters that support continued housing stability.
  • Support daily property operations by coordinating maintenance activities, inspections, vendors, building compliance requirements, supply needs, invoices, and follow-up on repairs or building violations.
  • Assist the Property Manager with resident communications, staff coordination, meetings, reporting, Housing Court matters, rent collection, and general office administration, stepping in as an onsite resource when needed.
  • Maintain organized and accurate property records, reports, certificates, vendor documentation, meeting minutes, correspondence, and other operational materials while supporting emergency procedures and occasional after-hours needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in affordable, supportive, or residential property management or a related housing environment, with an understanding of resident-centered service and housing stability.
  • Working knowledge of affordable housing compliance programs such as LIHTC and Section 8 ; familiarity with DHCR, NYC 15/15, ESSHI, SCRIE, DRIE, or similar programs is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain detailed records, and meet compliance deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with RealPage or comparable property management software is highly valued.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with residents, colleagues, service providers, vendors, and external agencies; Spanish-language skills are a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This full-time, nonexempt position offers compensation of $27.00-$33.00 per hour for a 35-hour workweek. Our partner offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 403(b) retirement savings plan; Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA); life and disability coverage; an Employee Assistance Program (EAP); commuter benefits; voluntary benefit options; vacation and sick time; and approximately 11-12 paid federal holidays. This position is onsite five days per week and includes regular movement throughout the property, including standing, walking, bending, and occasionally moving items weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
