Assistant Project Manager - Process Piping

A well-established and respected mechanical contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of commercial construction projects throughout Southern California. This position offers the opportunity to work on a combination of Process Piping HVAC, plumbing, piping, and design-build projects across healthcare, education, hospitality, commercial, and institutional markets.
The Assistant Project Manager will partner with Project Managers and field teams to coordinate project operations, manage documentation, track costs, support procurement efforts, and help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with all phases of project execution, from preconstruction through project closeout.
- Coordinate with general contractors, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
- Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Support procurement activities, including material buyouts, purchase orders, equipment tracking, and vendor coordination.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements.
- Assist with project scheduling, planning, and progress tracking.
- Monitor project budgets, labor productivity, and cost forecasts.
- Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate meeting minutes and action items.
- Assist with monthly billings, collections, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate with fabrication, BIM, and field operations teams to support efficient project delivery.
- Help manage project closeout activities, including punch lists, as-built documentation, training materials, and warranty packages.
- Promote and maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in construction project management, project engineering, or project coordination.
- Process piping experience
- Experience supporting commercial mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or MEP construction projects preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction management software is preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated with a desire to advance within a growing construction organization.
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical contracting experience.
- Design-build project experience.
- Healthcare, higher education, hospitality, commercial, or public works project exposure.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Experience supporting projects ranging from $5M to $100M+ in value.
