Job summary

Appleton Finn is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support major heavy civil infrastructure projects in the Chicago area. You will work with project engineers and field leadership to ensure safety, timeliness, budget adherence and high-quality outcomes.

The role offers significant responsibility, exposure to complex projects, and opportunities to advance toward Project Manager level, with a clear progression path and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or related field preferred.
• Experience on heavy civil, transportation, roadway, bridge or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of project controls, scheduling, cost management and contract administration.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and supporting field operations.
• Excellent communication, organization and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, coordination and execution of heavy civil construction projects.
• Partner with Superintendents, Project Engineers and senior management to achieve objectives.
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, costs and milestones.
• Assist with forecasting, cost reporting and profitability projections.
• Review contract documents, drawings and project requirements.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and subcontractor coordination.
• Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Identify risks and take action to keep projects on track.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality and project procedures.
• Mentor and support Project Engineers and junior team members.
• Provide regular progress updates and reporting to leadership.
