Job Summary

Manages all aspects of small to medium campus construction projects for the University of Texas at Dallas under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Construction. Manages the full construction project lifecycle, from initial project planning phases through completion of construction.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, engineering, construction management or closely related field of study. One (1) year of project management experience in construction, architecture, interior design, engineering, or very closely related field.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Education and Experience

One (1) year of project management experience in construction, architecture, interior design, engineering, or very closely related field in a higher education or K-12 education environment; can be counted concurrently with minimum qualification requirements.

One (1) year of experience creating budgets and cost estimates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meets with clients, architects, engineers, and other design personnel to establish project plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Selects, negotiates with, and coordinates the work of vendors, contractors, or sub-contractors.
  • Develop project schedules and scopes. Assists with RFQs for selection of AE professional services. Assists with RFP for selection of construction professionals. Assists in the review and qualification of vendor proposals and helps prepare documentation for formal contracts and purchase requisitions. Reviews purchase orders and invoices for accuracy.
  • Coordinates construction project resources and tracks project progress against established timelines and schedules. Supports development of project cost estimates and budgets. Manages encumbrances and expenses throughout the duration of the project. Maintains status logs, performs periodic budget and schedule updates.
  • Ensures work is completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Acts as a liaison between the client and project team members regarding changes or problems.
  • Tracks project progress against milestones, budgetary guidelines, or other performance indicators and prepares and delivers reports to management and university leadership.
  • Reviews construction drawings and specifications in collaboration with other UTD colleagues to determine appropriate improvements.
  • Actively collaborates with appropriate licensing agencies ( TAS , Fire, Elevator/ TDLR , Health, etc.) to ensure completed construction projects are building-code compliant and properly documented.
