Job description

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through completion and closeout.

This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who has hands‑on experience with a commercial general contractor and is ready to take the next step toward full Project Manager responsibility. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients, the APM will help coordinate project activities, maintain documentation, track costs and schedules, and resolve issues before they impact project execution.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both in the office and on active commercial construction sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Manager with day-to-day management of commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, and related projects.
  • Assist with project activities from preconstruction and procurement through construction, turnover, and final closeout.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, consultants, Superintendents, and field teams to keep project requirements and deliverables on track.
  • Prepare, distribute, track, and close out RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes, contracts, and other construction documents to identify discrepancies, missing information, and coordination issues.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining project schedules and track progress against key milestones.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, purchase orders, invoices, change orders, and other financial information.
  • Attend project, owner, subcontractor, and coordination meetings; document action items and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to observe progress, document field conditions, and coordinate with the Superintendent and project team.
  • Assist with material procurement, delivery tracking, subcontractor scheduling, site logistics, and other project coordination activities.
  • Support project communication between the field, office, design team, subcontractors, and client.
  • Assist with inspections, punch-list activities, warranty items, turnover documentation, and final closeout.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential schedule delays, cost concerns, scope issues, procurement challenges, and other project risks.
  • Take on increasing responsibility for project coordination, subcontractor management, scheduling, and financial tracking with the goal of progressing into a Project Manager role.
  • 2+ years of commercial construction experience in project management, project engineering, project coordination, or a related role.
  • Required: Experience working for a commercial general contractor.
  • Experience with commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, or similar projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction documents, including plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, contracts, and change orders.
  • Understanding of commercial construction processes, sequencing, subcontractor coordination, procurement, and project documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, Superintendents, clients, and internal teams.
  • Experience tracking project schedules, costs, commitments, procurement, and change‑order activity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management software.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, follow-through, communication, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced commercial construction environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on commercial construction experience will be considered.
  • Commercial construction experience is required. Candidates with residential‑only construction experience will not meet the requirements.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Health insurance.
  • Retirement plan options.
  • Paid time off.
  • Company-sponsored benefits and programs.
  • Professional development and ongoing training.
  • Increasing project ownership and responsibility.
  • Clear career path toward Project Manager.
