Job description

B&D was named a 2024 Champion of Learning by the Association for Talent Development – four years in a row!

Are you driven by curiosity, grounded in strong analytical thinking, and motivated to grow your career in a purpose-filled, high-performance environment? If you thrive on solving complex problems and value a collaborative culture where your voice matters, B&D could be the place for you.

About The Role

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) provides critical support to the successful delivery of large-scale capital improvement programs. This role spans K-12 public schools, independent and charter schools, municipal and community recreation facilities. You’ll contribute to program strategy and implementation efforts, supporting everything from consultant procurement and design oversight to budget reconciliation and construction monitoring.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone ready to step into project leadership, with opportunities to manage smaller-scale projects independently and guide junior staff.

What You'll Do

  • Support the management and execution of multiple projects within a large-scale program, helping ensure budget, schedule, and quality goals are met.
  • Own the full management of smaller or mid-sized implementation projects ($10M+), serving as a trusted client advisor and day-to-day contact.
  • Prepare and tailor high-quality client deliverables, including reports, presentations, cost estimates, and schedules that align with desired project outcomes.
  • Coordinate and guide the work of project staff, including internal teammates and external consultants, architects, contractors, and JV partners.
  • Perform quality control on all project outputs—ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness.
  • Provide direction to analysts or interns and contribute to their development through coaching and feedback.
  • Stay current on industry trends and practices across the K-12 and Venues + Municipal markets.
  • Participate in business development efforts, such as conference attendance, article writing, and maintaining prospective client relationships.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, finance, economics, urban planning, real estate, or a related field.
  • 3 years of full-time experience in the planning or implementation of capital projects.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing and presenting client-facing deliverables.
  • Technological proficiency across Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); ability to apply tools to planning or implementation assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a high-functioning team.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Aptitude and desire to mentor and train junior staff.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Commitment to client satisfaction, integrity, and delivering exceptional work.
