Position Overview

TRAC Builders is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Project Manager with 5+ years of construction project management experience to join our team. This position will support projects throughout New England, with the majority of TRAC Builders’ work located in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Travel to project sites and other locations is required based on project needs.

The Assistant Project Manager plays an integral role in the successful planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of assigned construction projects. Working closely with the Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Superintendent, and broader project team, this position supports project scheduling, budgeting, procurement, subcontractor coordination, documentation, change management, and communication with project stakeholders.

The Assistant Project Manager will help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and TRAC Builders’ standards for quality. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of construction processes, excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve project challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Manager and project team with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and identification of resources necessary for successful project execution.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of project objectives, contract requirements, plans, specifications, schedules, and overall project scope.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor procurement, bid analysis, scope review, buyout, and coordination.
  • Support the establishment of project objectives, responsibilities, and expectations among project team members.
  • Assist with project accounting functions, including budget management, cost tracking, forecasting, team expenses, and identifying potential financial exposure or project risk.
  • Support the project team in meeting or exceeding established project profitability goals.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining project reports, including monthly financial reports, progress analyses, schedules, billings, safety/loss analyses, and status reports.
  • Coordinate requests for pricing related to changes in the work and ensure subcontractor pricing is received, reviewed, and processed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the preparation, tracking, and processing of change orders for clients and subcontractors.
  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in maintaining the project schedule and ensuring construction activities, procurement, and submittals are properly coordinated with critical project milestones.
  • Assist with developing and updating project work plans and schedules as project conditions and requirements evolve.
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and other parties responsible for completing various phases of the project.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including clients, architects, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, field personnel, and internal team members.
  • Work closely with field teams to monitor construction progress, identify project needs, and maintain communication between field and office personnel.
  • Participate in subcontractor, owner, preconstruction, preconference, status, and other project-related meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate meeting minutes, action items, and follow-up documentation for project meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining project progress photographs and other required project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, current, and complete project files and records.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, procurement items, change documentation, and other project-related correspondence.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and other project documents to identify discrepancies, coordination issues, or potential impacts to the work.
  • Assist in identifying elements of project design and construction that may result in disputes, claims, schedule impacts, or other project risks.
  • Support the project team in proactively resolving field issues, unforeseen conditions, design conflicts, and other project challenges.
  • Assist with client communication and review project deliverables for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
  • Monitor the timeliness of procurement, the submittal process, material deliveries, and critical-path activities.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch list coordination, documentation, warranties, as‑built information, operations and maintenance manuals, and final project turnover.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration between project management and field teams.
  • Attend company and industry events, including meetings, trainings, workshops, and other professional development activities as required.

  • Travel to project sites throughout New England as required, with the majority of TRAC Builders’ projects located in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction project management experience in an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Manager, or comparable role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the construction industry, construction methods, building trades, and sequencing of work.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety requirements and a commitment to supporting a strong safety culture.
  • Experience with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, subcontractor coordination, RFIs, submittals, change management, and project documentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings, plans, specifications, contracts, and related project documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and project requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project teams, field personnel, clients, subcontractors, and design professionals.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and the ability to proactively identify project needs and potential challenges.
  • Proficiency with relevant construction management technology, project management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and other locations throughout New England as required.
