Job summary

TRAC Builders is seeking an experienced Field & Shop Manager with 10+ years of commercial construction to lead its self-performed field operations and manage the shop, fleet, tools, and project-support resources.

Position Overview

TRAC Builders is seeking an experienced Field & Shop Manager with 10+ years of commercial construction experience to lead and coordinate TRAC Builders’ self-performed field operations while managing the company’s shop, equipment yard, fleet, tools, and project-support resources.

Based in Attleboro, Massachusetts, the Field & Shop Manager plays a key operational leadership role in ensuring TRAC field crews and project teams have the labor, equipment, tools, materials, and support necessary to perform work safely, efficiently, and profitably.

The Field & Shop Manager plans, coordinates, and supports TRAC-performed work across active projects, including general requirements, interior and exterior carpentry, scaffolding, cleanup, equipment support, selective demolition, selective civil work, concrete, and related scopes.

This position works closely with the Production Manager and General Foreman, as well as Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Safety personnel, and company leadership, to coordinate staffing and resources, support field production, maintain company assets, and proactively address operational needs across projects.

The successful candidate will bring extensive commercial construction and field leadership experience, strong knowledge of fleet and construction equipment management, and the ability to effectively balance the needs of multiple active projects and field crews.

Duties & Responsibilities

Field Planning, Production & Leadership

• Plan and coordinate TRAC-performed construction activities, including labor, equipment, tools, materials, access, sequencing, logistics, and daily priorities.
• Work closely with the Production Manager and General Foreman on company-wide staffing, crew assignments, production goals, foreman support, and field personnel development.
• Support general requirements across active projects and oversee TRAC-performed scopes including interior and exterior carpentry, scaffolding, cleanup, equipment support, selective demolition, selective civil work, concrete, and related activities.
• Coordinate manpower and company resources across multiple active projects based on project schedules, priorities, and operational needs.
• Visit jobsites regularly to monitor production, labor performance, safety, quality, resource requirements, and field conditions.
• Identify production or resource concerns and work collaboratively with field and project leadership to implement appropriate corrective action.
• Monitor field productivity and help establish realistic expectations for manpower, production, sequencing, and execution of TRAC-performed work.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and operational support to Foremen and field personnel.
• Promote consistent field planning, housekeeping, documentation, accountability, quality, and productive work practices across TRAC projects.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration between field crews, project management teams, the shop, and company leadership.

Shop, Fleet, Equipment & Yard Management

• Oversee the day-to-day operation and organization of TRAC Builders’ shop, warehouse, equipment yard, fleet, tools, scaffolding, materials, PPE, consumables, and related project-support resources.
• Maintain effective inspection, preventive maintenance, repair, certification, registration, inventory, and asset-control programs for company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Ensure company vehicles, equipment, tools, and other assets are maintained in safe, reliable, and operational condition.
• Coordinate and prioritize repairs, maintenance, fabrication, loading, deliveries, returns, mobilizations, demobilizations, and movement of company assets between projects.
• Troubleshoot vehicle and construction-equipment issues and coordinate internal or outside repairs as appropriate.
• Monitor equipment utilization, rental activity, maintenance costs, repair history, and operational demand.
• Evaluate company equipment and fleet needs and recommend purchases, repairs, replacements, rentals, or disposal of assets as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of company assets, including location, condition, maintenance, inspections, certifications, and assignments.
• Coordinate the timely delivery and retrieval of tools, equipment, materials, scaffolding, and other resources required by field teams.
• Maintain an organized, efficient, safe, and professional shop and equipment yard.

Project Support, Cost Control & Coordination

• Coordinate with project teams during preconstruction, project startup, execution, and closeout to establish realistic labor, equipment, material, and logistics plans for TRAC-performed work.
• Provide field and operational input to support estimating, budgeting, scheduling, crew composition, productivity planning, equipment requirements, logistics, and means and methods.
• Assist project teams in evaluating the resources necessary to successfully execute TRAC-performed scopes.
• Track labor performance, production, equipment utilization, rentals, repairs, material consumption, asset locations, and other direct-work and project-support costs.
• Monitor resource utilization and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce unnecessary costs, and maximize the effective use of company-owned assets.
• Maintain clear and timely communication with project teams and company leadership regarding staffing, schedule impacts, production concerns, equipment readiness, shop priorities, and resource requirements.
• Anticipate upcoming project needs and proactively coordinate manpower, equipment, tools, and materials to support project schedules.
• Assist with project mobilization and demobilization planning and ensure company resources are efficiently transitioned between projects.

Safety & Company Leadership

• Ensure field and shop activities comply with TRAC Builders’ policies and procedures, OSHA requirements, contractual obligations, and established safety and quality standards.
• Confirm field crews have the appropriate plans, training, PPE, tools, equipment, and materials necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned work.
• Promote stop-work authority, personal accountability, and proactive identification and correction of unsafe conditions.
• Partner with TRAC Builders’ Safety Department and project leadership regarding inspections, incidents, corrective actions, training requirements, and operational risks.
• Ensure company vehicles, equipment, tools, scaffolding, and shop operations meet applicable safety, inspection certification, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain productive and professional relationships with vendors, rental companies, repair facilities, suppliers, service providers, subcontractors, and other business partners.
• Promote continuous improvement in field operations, shop management, fleet and equipment practices, productivity, safety, and resource utilization.

• Represent TRAC Builders professionally on jobsites and in interactions with employees, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

• Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.

Education & Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of commercial construction experience, including significant experience in field leadership, shop management, construction equipment management, fleet operations, or a comparable construction-support role.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting construction field crews across multiple active projects.
• Strong experience coordinating general requirements and self-performed construction activities, including carpentry and related field scopes.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, site logistics, manpower planning, field production, and construction operations.
• Strong background in automotive and construction-equipment repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, and diagnostics.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fleet management and preventive-maintenance programs.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, work plans, equipment manuals, and technical information.
• Strong understanding of construction safety requirements and demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe field, shop, fleet, and equipment operations.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively coordinate field personnel, manage competing priorities, and support multiple active projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, and accountability skills.
• Formal leadership training or certification preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, email, typing, and general business technology, with the ability to maintain accurate digital records and reports.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
• Forklift Operator Certification required or ability to obtain promptly following hire.
• Massachusetts and Rhode Island hoisting licenses preferred.
• Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) preferred.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification or higher required; OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly between the Attleboro facility and TRAC Builders project sites throughout Southern New England.

Compensation

Salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.
