HDR is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Chicago, IL. Our team provides integrated facility and infrastructure design services, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Site Civil Engineering. This role will focus on Tech/Media/Telecom, Data Centers, and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure.

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for the growth, operations, and technical leadership of the electrical team. Key responsibilities include design, staff development and mentoring, workload management, profitability, morale, and quality control. This individual will engage with clients and the engineering community, collaborating with the BES Business Group Manager to build strong external and internal client relationships. Additional duties involve marketing, project planning, and representing HDR in the local industry.

Travel and extended stays at project sites are required.

In this role, you'll:

  • Coordinate work of single or multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle under supervision of a Project Manager
  • Manage aspects of small projects or specific parts of larger projects
  • Handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Work onsite as needed, willing to travel and stay extended periods
  • Coordinate staffing and workload, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule
  • Track financials and adjust work efforts to meet budget and schedule parameters
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Operations, and Business leadership for project reviews
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP certification
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, estimating, scheduling, and project management software
  • Experience designing complex healthcare, laboratory, or mission-critical data center facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills
