Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day management of commercial and healthcare projects
• Support projects from preconstruction through closeout
• Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams
• Assist with subcontractor buyout, procurement, and contract administration
• Review drawings, specs, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project docs
• Assist with project schedules and monitor milestones
• Attend meetings and distribute minutes and action items
• Assist with cost tracking, budgeting, and forecasting
• Review subcontractor invoices and applications for payment

Position Overview A well-established General Contractor is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join its Connecticut team. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional looking to take the next step in their career and gain greater responsibility on commercial and healthcare projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a General Contractor and a solid understanding of project management, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, cost control, and project documentation. Healthcare construction experience is highly valued, particularly experience working in occupied or operational facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager with the day-to-day management of commercial and healthcare construction projects
• Support projects from preconstruction through closeout
• Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams
• Assist with subcontractor buyout, procurement, and contract administration
• Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
• Assist with project schedules and monitor progress against key milestones
• Participate in project meetings and distribute meeting minutes and action items
• Assist with project cost tracking, budget management, and forecasting

Project Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following:

• Hospitals and medical centers
• Ambulatory care facilities
• Medical office buildings
• Higher education
• Corporate/commercial buildings
• Office renovations and fit-outs
• Ground-up commercial construction
• Renovations within occupied facilities

Healthcare Experience

Healthcare construction experience is particularly valuable. Candidates should understand the additional coordination required when working in active medical environments, including:

• Phased construction
• Infection control requirements
• ICRA procedures
• Shutdown coordination
• Working around patients, staff, and ongoing hospital operations
• MEP coordination
• Temporary facilities and utilities
• Tight scheduling and logistical constraints

Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction experience, preferably with a General Contractor
• Previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar construction role
• Commercial and/or healthcare construction experience
• Strong understanding of construction documents and project management processes
• Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and project schedules
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience with Procore or similar construction management software preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
