Job summary

The Arc of Greater Prince William / INSIGHT, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Program Manager (APM) to lead a residential group home for adults with developmental disabilities.

This hands-on role blends direct support with staff supervision, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance to ensure person-centered services. Under supervision of the Program Manager and Director of Residential Services, you will oversee daily operations, ISPs, staff scheduling, training, and incident reporting while

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associates or bachelor's preferred.
  • 1–2 years of IDD services or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a three-year driving record.
  • Ability to pass background checks and health screenings.
  • Must be able to operate organizational vehicle and bus/van.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of a residential group home and ensure policy compliance.
  • Support supervision, coaching, and scheduling of DSPs.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Program Manager.
  • Oversee onboarding, training, and competency development of new employees.
  • Ensure ISPs are implemented and progress toward outcomes is tracked.
  • Review THERAP documentation for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist with audits, corrective actions, and safety reporting.
  • Provide direct, person-centered support to residents as needed.

Working under the supervision of the Program Manager and direction of the Director of Residential Services, the APM supports the daily operations of a residential group home serving adults with developmental disabilities. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines direct support with staff supervision, regulatory compliance, documentation oversight, and quality assurance while ensuring services are delivered in a person-centered manner.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of a residential group home and ensure compliance with Virginia DBHDS requirements and organizational policies.
  • Assist with the supervision, coaching, and support of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Program Manager.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and maintaining appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and competency development of new employees.
  • Ensure Individual Support Plans (ISPs) are properly implemented and monitor individuals' progress toward established outcomes.
  • Review documentation in THERAP for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Assist with internal audits, inspections, corrective action plans, and other quality-assurance activities.
  • Ensure incidents, injuries, and unusual occurrences are properly reported, documented, and followed up.
  • Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Monitor staff compliance with safety and supervision requirements.
  • Provide direct support to individuals as needed, including assistance with personal care, hygiene, daily living, and medical needs.
  • Promote independence, dignity, individual choice, and meaningful community participation.
  • Monitor medication administration practices and medication documentation for compliance with MAT requirements and physician orders.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure appropriate use of individual funds.
  • Communicate household, maintenance, and safety concerns to appropriate leadership.
  • Provide coverage at other residential program locations when needed.
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in IDD services or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable THREE-YEAR driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate an organizational vehicle, including a medium-sized bus and/or van.
  • Ability to successfully complete required criminal background checks and health screenings.
  • Ability to complete and maintain required DBHDS training and certifications, including CPR, First Aid, AED, and Medication Administration Training (MAT), if applicable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic documentation systems, including THERAP.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, sound judgment, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals, families, coworkers, and other members of the residential team.
Physical & Work Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, perform CPR/First Aid/AED, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, push, pull and reach, climb stairs, assist individuals as needed, and safely navigate residential and community environments.
