Job summary

The Arc of Greater Prince William / INSIGHT, Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our Residential Services team at a group home in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the DSP provides direct care and support to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a residential group home. DSPs assist individuals with activities of daily living while promoting independence, dignity, personal choice, and

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable three-year driving record.
  • Ability to operate organizational vehicle (bus/van).
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks and health screenings.
  • Ability to complete required trainings (CPR, First Aid, AED, MAT).
  • Basic computer skills and use of THERAP.
  • Assist individuals with personal care with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered direct care based on ISP and goals.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, meals).
  • Promote independence, community involvement, and meaningful participation.
  • Provide safe transportation to programs, medical appointments, and activities.
  • Plan and participate in recreational and skill-building activities.
  • Ensure health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times.
  • Accurately document in THERAP and complete reports.

What You'll Do
  • Provide person-centered direct care and support based on each individual's ISP and identified goals.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, meal preparation, and household responsibilities.
  • Promote independence, personal choice, community involvement, and meaningful participation.
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation to day programs, medical appointments, and community activities.
  • Plan and participate in recreational, leisure, community, and skill-building activities.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times.
  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and Medication Administration Training (MAT) requirements when certified.
  • Follow behavior support plans and approved crisis-intervention procedures.
  • Accurately complete required documentation, data collection, and progress notes in THERAP.
  • Maintain individuals' privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and Human Rights.
  • Immediately report incidents, injuries, unusual occurrences, and suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality and participate in required meetings and training.
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required..
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable THREE YEAR driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate an organizational vehicle, including a medium-sized bus and/or van.
  • Ability to successfully complete required criminal background checks and health screenings.
  • Ability to complete and maintain required training and certifications, including CPR, First Aid, AED, and Medication Administration Training (MAT), if applicable.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic documentation systems, including THERAP.
  • Ability to assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, and medical needs with dignity and respect.
  • Compassion, patience, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, perform CPR/First Aid/AED, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, push, pull and reach, climb stairs, safely navigate residential and community environments, and operate an organizational vehicle.
