Job description

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Director, oversees program functions and operations for multiple programs supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) within an assigned region. This includes direct supervision of Program Supervisors and indirect supervision of direct support and other program staff (e.g., Assistant Supervisors, DSPs). The Assistant Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the assigned programs and interfaces with Program Supervisors, regulatory agencies (e.g., OPWDD, DDD), Quality, Compliance, Training, and other support departments to promote community integration and ensure the health, safety, and needs of the people we support.

Ensure that training provided and work performed by staff meets federal, state, local, and agency standards. The role involves staff development, providing feedback for performance evaluations, and serving as an administrative resource for Program Supervisors. Develops and maintains relationships with families, service providers, regulatory agencies, and community members.

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Oversees compliance with regulations and best practices for multiple program teams, including Program Supervisors, Assistant Supervisors, DSPs, and multidisciplinary team supports.
  • Provides leadership in implementing person-centered, individualized plans for individuals supported, collaborating with the director, regional leadership, and clinical teams.
  • Ensures staff assist individuals in maximizing their strengths and meeting personal goals, promoting quality of life and community connections.
  • Acts as Program Supervisor in their absence, overseeing program operations, staff training, budget management, and family liaison.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations, oversees clinical programming, and advocates for individuals supported, liaising with families and agencies.
  • Ensures appropriate supervision levels are provided on-site and in the community to ensure health and safety.
  • Participates in regular meetings and documentation, supervises staff performance, and reviews incident and other reports for compliance.
  • Monitors program finances, maintains facilities, and ensures safety standards are met.
  • Evaluates program needs, proposes solutions, and adapts services as needed.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, resolves concerns, and stays current with regulations and trends in the I/DD field.
  • Makes decisions based on policies to ensure appropriate service delivery and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Serves as Administrator-on-Call as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualification Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or related field, or equivalent experience and training.
    • Five years of experience with individuals with I/DD, including three years in a supervisory role.
    • Willingness and ability to travel regionally and respond to calls outside of regular hours.
    • Extensive knowledge of developmental disabilities, behavioral health, and relevant regulations.
    • Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations and crises effectively.
    Additional Minimum Requirements by State:

    For New Jersey: Must meet federal requirements for a QIDP, including at least one year of experience working directly with persons with disabilities, and hold specific qualifications such as a registered nurse, doctor, or a bachelor’s in a human services field. Must obtain RBT certification within one year and have a valid driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in related fields.
    Compensation:
