Position Description

The Department ofEnglish at Texas State University invites applicationsfor a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor,with specialty in Shakespeare and Early Modern Literature andCulture. The successful applicant will maintain an active researchagenda and record of publication and will teach both undergraduateand graduate courses on Shakespeare. In addition to Shakespeare,teaching assignments may include courses within candidate's otherareas of interest. Ability to teach and conduct research in one (ormore) of the following areas: Seventeenth- and/orEighteenth-Century British Literature; drama; material culture andperformance histories; global Shakespeare and adaptation studies;textual editing; early modern environmental humanities andecocriticism and/or digital humanities are especially desirable.The teaching assignment may include core English courses, such asintroductory literature surveys. All positions are subject toavailability of funds. Appointment begins Fall 2027.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in English or closely related field that meetsaccreditation requirements (18 graduate hours in English), withdegree completed at time of appointment.
• Specialization in Shakespeare and Early Modern Literature andCulture
• Background and/or experience commensurate with the position ofassistant professor and sufficient to teach graduate courses in thespecialization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability in scholarly research on Shakespeare andEarly Modern Literature and Culture.
• Documented Experience teaching Shakespeare at thepost-secondary level
• Ability to teach and conduct research in one (or more) of thefollowing areas: Seventeenth and/or Eighteenth Century BritishLiterature; drama; material culture and performance histories; global Shakespeare and adaptation studies; textual editing; orearly modern environmental humanities and ecocriticism and/ordigital humanities.
• Experience in mentoring and advising under-representedstudents.
