Job description

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY. The Department of German and Russian invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of German, effective July 1, 2027.

Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. in German Literature or a related field is required for the position, as is native or near-native fluency in German; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach courses in German Literature and Culture, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in 21st-century literary and cultural production in area(s) of expertise such as but not limited to migration and transnationalism, environmental humanities, media studies, Jewish studies, or gender and sexuality studies, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth. The successful candidate will have prior experience as a primary classroom instructor and will be able to provide evidence of teaching excellence. Experience with study abroad programs is particularly welcome. In addition to regular teaching duties and an active research agenda, the candidate is expected to participate actively in the department's life, including extracurricular activities with students. Position Summary

This individual will be expected to teach courses in first- and second-year German language, as well as literature and culture classes in German and English at the undergraduate level, engage in scholarly activities, participate in departmental, College, and University service, and contribute to the University’s community outreach efforts.
