Randolph-Macon’s new undergraduate Data Science program, housed inthe Department of Mathematics, offers both a major and a minorbuilt on foundational and elective coursework in mathematics,statistics, data science, computer science, biology, and ethics. Weseek a dynamic candidate who can contribute broadly to the programthrough hands-on, project-based teaching; curriculum developmentand interdisciplinary collaboration; and research, includingundergraduate research, that engages students in applying corestatistical and computational principles to complex, real-worlddata problems.

Major/Essential Functions:

Randolph-Macon College facultyteach, advise, conduct research and engage in scholarship withundergraduate students, and serve the College and program. Primaryteaching responsibilities include administering and creatingcourses in the Data Science program and contributing to the generaleducation program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Data Science, or a closely related field withexperience in data science, obtained by August 31, 2027.
• Evidence of experience in teaching data science andstatistics.
• Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and studentengagement.
• Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and ademonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable studentsacross racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach theirmaximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Effectiveness in teaching undergraduate Data Sciencecourses.
• Ability and effectiveness in teaching a variety ofStatistics/Mathematics courses.
• Dedication to educating the whole student in a diverse liberalarts environment.
• Interest/experience in curriculum development andinterdisciplinary Data Science collaboration with other STEMdisciplines, the social sciences, and/or the humanities.
• Scholarship with an emphasis on applied, practice-orientedresearch and experience/interest in engaging undergraduates inproject-based learning.
• Professional/industry experience and/or partnerships in DataScience or a related applied field.

Additional Valuable Qualifications

• Experience with Applied AI/ML and/or datamanagement/engineering.
• Ability to adapt to/incorporate emerging technologies andcomfort in operating in a rapidly evolving field.
• Commitment to student outcomes, including career advising andconnecting students to internships.

The salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor levelis $90,000 - $93,000 depending on previous experience in a tenure-track teaching position.
