Saint Mary's College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science beginning Fall 2027. Job description

The Saint Mary's College Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, beginning Fall 2027.

Established in 1844, Saint Mary's College was founded and is sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. We seek candidates whose teaching and scholarship engage computing, applied or computational mathematics, statistics, data-intensive methods, or related interdisciplinary applications. We are interested in candidates who can contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in computer science, data science, and mathematics, including our Master of Science in Data Science program. We especially welcome candidates whose interests complement and expand the Department's existing strengths and who are excited about developing courses in response to rapidly evolving areas such as computing, data science, artificial intelligence, and applied mathematics. Opportunities also exist for interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching in areas such as environmental science, health sciences, neuroscience, digital and public humanities, and engineering-related programs.

Teaching, research, and service expectations include:

• An 18-credit teaching load per academic year, typically three courses per semester, with opportunities to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, data science, and mathematics.
• Maintaining an active scholarly agenda appropriate to the candidate’s discipline.
• Directing undergraduate research and senior comprehensive projects and mentoring and advising students.
• Contributing to service within the Department and College.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with prior full-time, tenure-track faculty experience may be eligible for credit toward the tenure and promotion timeline, consistent with College policy and negotiated at the time of appointment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field.
• Teaching and scholarly interests in one or more of the following areas: computing, applied or computational mathematics, statistics, data-intensive methods, or related interdisciplinary applications.
• Ability to contribute to instruction in computer science, data science, and/or mathematics.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students in a liberal arts environment.
