Position Title: Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese History

The Department of History at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the early assistant professor level in Modern Chinese History. The position will begin on July 1, 2027. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in History by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities include teaching a survey of Modern China and topical seminars in Chinese History as well as East Asian History. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Candidates should maintain an active, high‑quality research program and demonstrate the highest standards of excellence in teaching.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and religions. Annual salary range: $90,000 – $100,000.
