The Department of Chemistry at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computational Chemistry.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized and well-funded research program in computational chemistry, with particular emphasis on excited states, electron correlation in molecular and solid-state systems, and simulating quantum algorithms and applying these to electronic structure problems. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an innovative and independent research program, demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to service activities that advance the Department and the broader scientific community.
This position is part of a broader cluster hiring initiative in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) at LSU, spanning the College of Science (the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Department of Chemistry) and the College of Engineering (Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering). The cluster includes searches in quantum device fabrication and production (Electrical & Computer Engineering), quantum AI/ML and algorithms (Computer Science and Engineering), experimental quantum and energy devices (Physics), experimental quantum and energy materials (Physics), computational condensed matter physics (Physics and Engineering) and quantum computational chemistry (Chemistry). This reflects LSU's strategic investment in building an interdisciplinary quantum research community spanning device fabrication, materials, algorithms, and theory.
Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the public, or cause significant damage to university property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
