Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Teacher Education, Elementary Education, or related field; ABD considered if completion before hire.
• Deep knowledge of The Science of Reading and literacy instruction.
• Ability to work collaboratively to maintain cohesion of the Elementary Education program.
• Experience teaching college-level literacy courses and/or graduate courses preferred.
• LETRS training preferred, or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire.
• Minimum of five years of experience teaching students in grades K-6 preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively; finalists may demonstrate via teaching demonstration.
• Demonstrated ability for creative, unique, and effective teacher education approaches.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral ability.
• Good organizational and time management skills; proficient with technology and online instruction.

Responsibilities

• Teach specialized pedagogy classes in literacy, social studies methods, differentiation, multilingual learners, classroom assessment, curriculum and lesson planning.
• Teach general pedagogy courses for the Elementary Education program.
• Assist in developing new curricula and programs.
• Assist in meeting national accreditation and USBE licensure competencies.
• Collaborate with local school districts to align program outcomes with elementary teaching needs.
• Supervise and mentor students in field experiences.
• Fulfill faculty duties including office hours, advising, and committee service.
• Provide institutional service per Regent and University policy.
• Adhere to department, college, and university policies; perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Doctoral degree in Teacher Education/Elementary Education or related field

Knowledge of The Science of Reading

Strong communication & interpersonal skills

Ability to teach college literacy courses

Experience with online instruction/technology

Collaboration skills

Excellent organizational & time management
