Job summary

Marshall University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Communication Disorders, starting January 2026. The ideal candidate will have expertise in speech-language pathology across pediatric and/or adult populations and a terminal degree in the field.

The role includes teaching, supervision at the university center, and active scholarly activity.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field.
• Master’s degree in communication disorders/speech-language pathology with CCC-SLP and 5+ years experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology and supervise students at the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center.
• Engage in scholarly activity and service to the department, college, and university.
• Contribute to clinical education, research, and inter-professional education initiatives.

Job Description

The Department of Communication Disorders invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning January 2026. The department seeks candidates with expertise in speech-language pathology across pediatric and/or adult populations. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, speech sound disorders, speech science, language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, neurogenic communication disorders, cognitive-communication disorders, dysphagia, and other areas relevant to contemporary clinical practice and education. The preferred candidate will have a terminal degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field; will consider applicants with a master’s degree in communication disorders/speech-language pathology and hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP with a minimum of 5 years’ experience and have experience in at least one of the following areas: speech sound disorders, speech science, child language disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Successful candidates with a master’s degree will be expected to complete a doctoral degree prior to applying for tenure and promotion. The candidate must show evidence of strong teaching, writing, clinical, and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrate interest in clinical service provision, clinical education, and research. The department seeks candidates who will contribute to the University’s general education curriculum and its emphasis on using high-impact teaching practices, particularly those affiliated with one (or more) of the institution’s pedagogical initiatives (e.g., Community-based Learning, Critical Thinking, First Year Seminar, Writing Across Curriculum, etc.). Additionally, the ideal candidate will contribute to the College’s support of interdisciplinary programs of study. Will include (not necessarily all) of the following: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of specialization and assigned by the Chair of the Department, supervising students on campus in the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center and potentially outside contracts, engaging in scholarly activity and service to the department, college, and university at large.
