Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking an Assistant Principal for the Wirt County Primary Center for the 2026-2027 school year. The position offers a 220-day contract with a flexible schedule created by the principal, reporting to the Principal and/or Superintendent.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s Degree, WV Professional Administrative Certificate, and at least three years of teaching experience, with strong instructional leadership and knowledge of elementary curriculum and WV School Law.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree and WV administrative credentials required.
• Minimum of three years successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, staff and parents.
• Familiarity with elementary curriculum, school finance and WV School Law.
• Experience in implementing innovative programs and technology use.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction for schools and district and lead instructional improvement.
• Gather, analyze and synthesize information to reach goals.
• Organize, delegate and manage group processes.
• Maintain professional work habits and continually improve skills.
• Assist principal in overall administration and act in principal's absence.

PRINCIPALS/DIRECTORS WILL POST IN OFFICE AREAS UPON RECEIPT.

The Wirt County Board of Education announces the following vacancy for the 2026-2027 school year:

DATE: August 24, 2026

POSITION: Assistant Principal, Wirt County Primary Center

CONTRACT: 220-day contract, flexible schedule, created by principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of a Master's Degree, WV Professional Administrative Certificate
• Minimum of three years successful teaching experience
• Accomplished evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors, preferred
• High academic achievement in college education program
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents
• Demonstrates knowledge or has experience in the elementary school curriculum, school finance, and West Virginia School Law
• Demonstrates knowledge or has experience in the duties and responsibilities of an elementary school assistant principal
• Educational philosophy compatible with the Wirt County Board of Education philosophy
• Certification to supervise and evaluate personnel as per §126-142-5 of WV Policy 5310
• Completion of the West Virginia Evaluation Leadership Institute
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others and as a member of an educational team
• Demonstrated ability to use technology
• Demonstrated ability to implement innovative programs related to the appropriate programmatic level
• Demonstrates self-control

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides purpose and direction for schools/county
• Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals
• Manages consensus and group behaviors
• Organizes and delegates to accomplish goals
• Provides instructional leadership, creates a climate conducive to learning schoolwide
• Implements a school improvement process
• Establishes good public and employee relationships
• Evaluates personnel as designated by the principal
• Maintains professional work habits
• Maintains and improves professional skills
• Performs other jobs/related duties as assigned by the principal
• Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school
• Act as principal in the absence of the school principal

SALARY: Wirt County Salary Scale for teachers based on degree and years' experience; WV assistant principal salary increment
