Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. in Newport Beach, CA seeks an Assistant Preconstruction Manager to participate in all bid/estimating activities, from plan reviews to pricing and subcontractor coordination.

You will perform quantity take-offs, scoping, and complex bidding while supporting internal teams and external partners. You will develop logical assumptions during early-design estimating, document them, and apply them to takeoff tasks, assisting with GMP budgeting and stakeholder

Qualifications

• BS in Construction Management or Engineering with 3+ years of preconstruction experience.
• Ability to synthesize cost data from multiple sources into a conceptual estimate.
• Experience with subcontracts, self-perform work, and GMP processes.
• Familiarity with estimating tools OST, WinEst, Bluebeam and BIM software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in pricing and bidding construction projects, handling complex trade categories.
• Lead preconstruction and estimating activities on small projects.
• Document assumptions during early-design estimating and apply to takeoffs.
• Coordinate with architects/consultants to clarify scope, materials, and schedule.
• Participate in bid reviews and final assembly of the estimate for owner presentation.
• Direct and organize bid information for future reference with subcontractors.
• Engage in GMP budgeting and subcontractor solicitations as part of the process.
• Develop relationships with owners, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
